CLEVELAND, OH - May 13th, 2008 - Cavaliers fans have a new online destination they can call their own. CavFanatic.com, the new and official social network of the Cleveland Cavaliers, gives the most passionate supporters of the Wine & Gold the opportunity to share their fanaticism for the team with a community of friends. CavFanatic.com was launched this week making the Cavaliers one of a handful of NBA teams to develop its own social network website.
Because CavFanatic.com is officially sanctioned, it offers an exclusivity to fans that is not offered on other social network sites. The Cavalier Girls, Scream Team members, mascot Moondog and Cavs broadcasters, along with a wide spectrum of family of staffers including players and coaches, will each have profile pages and be members of the CavFanatic.com community. It is here where fans can engage and exchange their shared interest in the Cavaliers with others connected to the team, or in essence, with the team itself.
"The web in general has evolved into what is now known as ‘Web 2.0’, which allows users to not only consume content, but to create content, share information and connect with others," said Jeff Lillibridge, Cavaliers director of website operations. "With CavFanatic.com, fans will still be able to communicate via a traditional forum, but will now have the additional capabilities to create blogs, share photos and videos, and connect with friends and groups."
Other fan-friendly features include:
- Live chat rooms
- Personalized profile page with custom web address
- "My Hub," which displays friend activity
- Rating system that allows fans to evaluate content
Another special feature of CavFanatic.com are the fan forums, which have been tremendously popular since they were launched four years ago on sister site Cavs.com.
In addition to communicating with each other, friends to the site soon get to know "The Fanatic", a virtual personality whose presence can pop up anywhere to share information, offer an opinion and in general keep things orderly in the community. As The Fanatic puts it, "If you’re a Cavaliers fan, there’s no better place to be among friends than CavFanatic.com."
